Aside from delivering messages and validations from the spirit world, breaking down barriers and misconceptions is an important part of a medium’s work. On this page, Michelle and Ezio answer some frequently asked questions.
What is a Medium?
A medium is anyone who communicates with the spirit world. There are many forms of mediumship ranging from spiritual or energetic healing, inspired or visionary art, physical phenomena, trance or channeling and of course…our favourite…survival evidence. Some people lump fortune telling into the same category as mediumship but we treat them as two very separate activities.
What About Fortune Telling?
As a rule, we don’t consider mediumship and fortune telling to be the same thing. Mediumship is not actually about making predictions. It’s about proving that those living in the spirit world still have active consciousness and watch over the people they left behind.
During mediumship readings, we don’t make predictions unless the prediction comes directly from a spirit communicator. It’s different with Michelle’s Tarot readings. Predictions often arise during those but it has more to do with the prevailing energies surrounding a person’s life circumstance. These energies usually point to an outcome.
There is a huge difference between psychic practice and mediumship. A psychic obtains their information from the energy of the person they are reading for. A medium links directly to the spirit. Sadly there are many psychics who call themselves mediums and conversely many mediums who don’t serve the purpose of spirit because they can’t seem to understand the importance of simply being a message bearer.
Are You Unique?
In so far that we are a working husband and wife psychic team we are very unique indeed! We know a few other husband and wife psychics but none that work together the way we do. But with respect to our work as mediums, we don’t think so.
In Ezio’s book Living Spirit, there is a passage that states, “The abilities of a medium are not supernatural…they are supremely natural!”
We love normal things like reading, watching movies, taking vacations, friends, family and football. (Well, Ezio loves football.) Yes, we talk to the spirit world. But so does everyone! Have you ever prayed? Yelled at God for not giving you what you want? Have you ever whispered to a loved one who has passed over to help with an exam or some other trauma in your life? Have you ever thanked God or the angels for an act of kindness? That’s talking to spirit…no matter what you might actually call it.
Can Anyone Be A Medium?
Every one has this ability but naturally some are better at it than others. Think of it like this. Every one can run down the street…but not every one can run an Olympic marathon. Each one of us is able to actively talk to spirit but learning how to receive their communication takes time and practice. We call this the Three P’s
Practice. Patience. Perseverance.
There have long been arguments about whether mediums are born more connected to the spirit realms than the average person. We tend to think that you have to be born with some natural ability but that you also need training from an experienced teacher to really polish your skills.
Is That All It Takes?
Pretty much so…aside from the total dedication it takes to learn how to do it properly. It also takes time to gain the spirit world’s trust. If you are not doing the work for the right reasons they know about it and won’t go out of their way to assist your growth and development. They do work with love however and will give a person every opportunity to work through human limitations in an effort to become more loving, more real. Realness is important to the spirit world. They are misrepresented enough by people who don’t understand so when they find someone who wants to sincerely be a servant to greater understanding…they will do whatever they can to help that person get it right. We have wonderful spirit guides and helpers and thank them every day for their love and support.
Do Spirits Frighten You?
Good, developed mediumship is never frightening because there is nothing to be gained from frightening people. Mediumship is based upon the links of love that exist between people and love never harms us. Love sets people free. It’s a healing thing. So for people coming to see a medium for a private reading or attending a show, it should be a joyous and uplifting experience.
It’s a little bit different for people wanting to develop their own mediumship. That’s a big commitment. When people first start out developing their mediumistic abilities, it’s like opening a window between worlds and feeling the draft rushing through. This draft is actually the physical environment of the spirit realms and can make you feel a bit uncomfortable until you learn to get it under control. That is where good training comes into play. You need a teacher who can see what’s happening and help steer you through it. Meditation helps settle it down a bit. We have helped many people develop and control their abilities.
Are Dead People Scary?
We don’t believe in dead people!
In fact we have often said it is not possible to communicate with the spirit of the dead and anyone who says otherwise is fooling themselves. Mediums do not communicate with the spirit of the dead but with the spirit of the living. That’s why we called Ezio’s second book, “Living Spirit.” Think about it. If a spirit can communicate intimate thoughts, shared memories and proof that they still know what is going on in their loved one’s lives, then how on earth could they be dead!
Spirit is most definitely living…even if they happen to be living elsewhere.
